The New Year may start here… but it doesn’t end here! We’ve still got many more months of discovery, realisation, awakening, recognition and transformation ahead – as signified by the forthcoming alignments between Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter. Remember that. In early January, many of us have a tendency to push ourselves too hard. We set resolutions, strive to keep them and then, when this proves difficult, we grow tense or, worse, so disappointed that we stop trying! Whatever you’re trying to change in your life now, pace yourself! The important thing is just to continue to want to change it!
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
This week brings a New Moon in the part of your chart that governs ‘status’. That suggests a real chance to begin afresh in an area of life where you have begun to feel undervalued. You may find that, before things improve, they get a little more intense. Do you feel disillusioned with a person, situation or set-up? Perhaps it is good for you to reach the end of your tether. Only once you have let go of a determination to cling to a situation as it currently stands will you recognise the value of the alternative that’s on offer to you.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
Shakespeare never said, ‘Neither a borrower nor a lender be.’ He had one of his characters say it in one of his plays – which is not quite the same thing. Shakespeare, I’m quite sure, had to cover his cash flow as best he could – just like all the rest of us do. Nor is it merely in matters fiscal that we all find ourselves feeling obligated and beholden. Life, it sometimes seems, is one long list of ‘what we owe’. As Venus moves to a new sector of the sky this week, you start to see a way to clear off an old debt and clear up an old mess.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
The world is full of people who have strong opinions. How can you be sure that your ideas are more relevant than anyone else’s? All you can be sure of is that they are yours and that they matter. You can’t go up to someone and say, ‘Do you mind if I borrow your beliefs?’ What you feel in your heart now has to be trusted. Your astrological outlook at the start of this new year brings drama followed by delight. You have a chance to rise above all in your life that really doesn’t matter… and then to pursue the only thing that does.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
Here comes a New Moon in your opposite sign. Somehow, an issue involves the difference between tact and deception. How much information must you disclose to someone? How much do you want them to tell you? Enough to give a clear idea of intention and attitude – or so much that there’s far too much to think about? Whenever there’s a serious conflict of culture or expectation, we have a simple choice. End up in an endless argument or just be a little more discreet. Don’t deny a truth now… but don’t trumpet it either.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
We are often told that we should not make assumptions. But what if we were to make no assumptions ever again? How confusing would life become then? We must make assumptions. What we must also do, though, is question those assumptions – test them, subject them to scrutiny. Only then are we entitled to treat them as certainties. As you settle into the new year, it is growing clear that one plan too many has been made on the basis of an unchecked expectation. Recognise as much and adapt, and all will yet be fine.
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
As we settle into the New Year, we find you wrestling with an idea that is difficult to comprehend. It is not your own idea. It is someone else’s. You want to understand what is being suggested. You’d like a greater insight. Better yet, you’d like to persuade yourself that this other person has the right idea and that all you have to do is support them in it. That would certainly make life a lot easier. First, though, you have to work out what it is that they really seem to be saying. You can’t just agree (or disagree) on the basis of a whim.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
Opticians have special lenses for customers with different visual impairments. There are some for people who can’t see what’s close up, and some for people who can’t see what’s far away. But how can they treat someone whose problem is seeing so far ahead that they transcend the usual boundaries of time and space. Your far-sightedness is impressive, yet it sometimes causes you to worry about events that are far in the future. Curb that fear. If you’re going to wear any glasses at all, make them rose-tinted!
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
When we face big, overwhelming challenges, we often respond by deciding to make small, almost trivial adjustments to our daily lives. Or we stay calm in the face of big trouble but get wildly upset about minor matters. What seems, this week, like a disproportionate reaction to a difficulty may turn out to contain a message that truly deserves to be heeded. Reflected in a small problem is the essence of a bigger one. Tackling the lesser problem may yet show you the way to properly handle the big one.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
Another year. Again! The world just keeps on turning. As it turns, we turn with it. Does this make us dizzy? Our bodies, in theory, can take all that motion. It’s the turning of another kind that proves challenging. It’s the way our lives turn inside out and upside down. Every time we think we’ve got ourselves organised, our plans start to unravel. Just as we are beginning to feel emotionally settled and secure, something causes us to question a key relationship. Soon, though, your life will take a real turn for the better.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Listen please, very carefully, to the sound of my voice. Concentrate and relax. You are feeling sleepy. Your eyelids are heavy. Now, let us go back to your childhood. You are very young. An adult is cross with you. Can you see them? They are making you feel bad. Now! Defy them! Tell them to go away. See how they obey? OK. You can wake up now. You are cured. Is it really going to be that simple to beat a real-life fear in 2013? Well, almost! This week’s New Moon will help you to take command of a scary situation.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
Free will. Choice. The power to pick a destiny and break a habit. It all sounds so feasible and clear-cut until, that is, we find ourselves swept away on a tide of change over which we have no control. Some impulses are compulsive. Some circumstances are overwhelming. Even the most zealous believers in conscious determination will sometimes become flotsam and jetsam in the ocean of inevitability. Yet your apparent lack of power at the start of 2013 is, as you are about to discover, no bad thing.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Regardless of the state of your finances, there’s one ‘account’ in which you are very much in credit. You have accrued, over recent months or even years, a lot of goodwill. You have done people big favours. You have made generous sacrifices. You have supported various people through tough times and gone out of your way for others. It’s time now, to ‘call in’ some of what you are owed. It may be necessary to make a specific request for this help. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need this week or, indeed, this year!
